Let’s Make Sense of Individual and Family Plans, Together

Whether you’re the spouse of a Medicare client who still needs your own coverage, or you’re self-employed and looking for a plan that fits your life, you’re not alone.

As a licensed insurance agent, I work with individuals and families throughout Colorado in specific situations where an Off Exchange health insurance plan is the right fit.

I’ll help you understand your options with clarity and no pressure.

What Is the Affordable Care Act?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes called “Obamacare,” was created to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, especially for those who don’t receive coverage through an employer.

Here’s what it means for you:

  • Coverage is available through the Health Insurance Marketplace
  • You can’t be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions
  • Every plan includes essential health benefits like preventive care, doctor visits, and prescriptions

In Colorado, subsidized ACA plans are enrolled through the Connect for Health Colorado platform. If that’s the right path for you, I’ll make sure you know exactly where to go.

Is an Individual or Family Plan Right for You?

I work with individual and family health insurance clients on a case-by-case basis. Here’s who I typically help:

  • You’re the spouse or partner of a Medicare client and not yet 65
  • You’ll be Medicare-eligible within the next five years
  • You’re semi-retired or retired without group health insurance
  • You’re self-employed and committed to long-term self-employment
  • Your employer provides a health insurance premium allowance (ICHRA)
  • Your employer doesn’t offer health insurance and you plan to stay with them at least a year
  • You or your family do not qualify for an Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC), Medicaid, or CHP+

If you qualify for an APTC, Medicaid, or CHP+, the right starting point is ConnectforHealthCO.com. They have assistants who can walk you through subsidized plans at no cost.

Not sure which applies to you?

Many of my clients are in the middle of big transitions, whether that be stepping into self-employment, preparing for early retirement, or navigating a change in employer coverage. I’m here to help you protect your health and your finances through every season.

Why I Take a Personal Approach

Health insurance isn’t one-size-fits-all. I won’t just plug your info into a system and send you a list of plans. I take the time to understand your needs, your lifestyle, and your goals.

Many clients come to me feeling overwhelmed. That’s okay. I’ll listen, answer your questions, and make sure the plan you choose actually works for your life – not just on paper.

Why ACA Coverage Matters

Financial Protection for Families

Plans help cover unexpected healthcare costs that could otherwise become overwhelming.

Local Coverage Networks

I’ll help you find plans that include the providers you know and trust.

Off Exchange Flexibility

Off Exchange plans aren't tied to the Marketplace enrollment calendar the same way. Depending on your situation, you may have more flexibility in when and how you enroll.

Comprehensive Family Care

All ACA plans include preventive care, mental health services, prescriptions, pediatric care, and more.

What These Plans Cover

ACA-compliant plans must include:

  • Doctor visits
  • Hospital care
  • Mental health support
  • Prescription drugs
  • Maternity and newborn care
  • Preventive services like screenings and vaccines
  • Pediatric care

Plans are organized into Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers. Each balances monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs differently. If we’re working together, we’ll find the right level based on your healthcare needs and budget.

Common Questions About Individual and Family Plans

When can I enroll?

Open Enrollment runs from November 1 through January 15. Certain life events may qualify you for enrollment outside this period.

ACA plans are designed for individuals under 65. If you’re nearing Medicare eligibility, I can help you plan that transition.

Many Colorado residents qualify for premium tax credits that reduce monthly costs – sometimes by hundreds of dollars.

Off Exchange plans have more flexible enrollment than Marketplace plans. Contact me and we’ll look at your specific situation and timing together.

On Exchange plans are sold through ConnectforHealthCO.com and may include subsidies that lower your monthly premium. Off Exchange plans are full-premium policies that don’t factor in subsidies, and they may be the right fit depending on your situation.

Yes, and this is one of the most common situations I help with. If your spouse is enrolled in Medicare but you’re not yet 65, you’ll need your own coverage. I can help you find an Off Exchange plan that works for your needs and budget.
